The Theory of Power

The beginning student may ask, “where does one obtain the power to create the devastating results attributed to Tae Kwon-Do?” This power is attributed to the utilisation of a person’s full potential strength through the mathematical application of Tae Kwon-Do techniques. The average person only uses 10 to 20% of their potential. Anyone, regardless of age, size or sex, who can condition himself or herself to use 100% of his potential can also perform the same destructive techniques.

Though training will certainly result in a superb level of physical fitness, it will not necessarily result in the acquisition of extraordinary stamina or superhuman strength. More important, Tae Kwon-Do training will result in obtaining a high level of reaction force, concentration, equilibrium, breath control and speed; and these are the factors that will result in a high degree of physical power.

REACTION FORCE: Not only your own reaction force, but your opponents own force against him/herself.

CONCENTRATION: Use of all your force upon a small area of your target increases its effect.

EQUILIBRIUM: Balance, it’s important to maintain balance in all aspects of attack and defence.

BREATH CONTROL: Helps you with stamina, ability to take a blow, augments your power when using Tae Kwon-Do.

SPEED: Must be used to augment the other four:- "Force equals mass times acceleration" - use hip twist to increase mass.
