About Us

Taran Tek Tae Kwon-Do was formed in the Autumn of 2007 by two students from the club formerly known as "Billy Thomson's Tae Kwon-Do"  in Truro.

Mr Thomson's Truro Tae Kwon-Do club was one of the most successful and longest running TKD clubs in the area. Following Mr Thomson's "retirement" the club structure was re-built and expanded into two new clubs under the Taran Tek TKD Banner. The Truro club is run by Mr Hayers and the St Newlyn East club is run by Mr Spinks. Both instructors are committed to teaching traditional Tae Kwon-Do combined with self defence, groundwork and all round fitness. We have 15 black belts from 1st to 3rd Dan that all contribute to the development of the club.

Taran Tek

The name "Taran Tek" is from the Cornish language and literally means "Beautiful Thunder" This for us sums up the sport of Tae Kwon-Do, the beauty of patterns coupled with the power of striking and sparring. We're based in Cornwall so wanted to represent the local language in the name of our club.

UKGT

We are an ITF club and are represented in the UK by an organisation called United Kingdom Global Tae Kwon-Do (UKGT) This is headed by Master Sahota (7th Dan) The UKGT is a full member of the BTC (British Tae Kwon-Do Council)
